Swimming and Diving Tops Sacred Heart and Fairfield
Blue Devils beat Fairfield 84-29 and Sacred Heart 95-16
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team put on a dominating performance in Fairfield on Sunday, beating both Fairfield and Sacred Heart as they continue preparation for the Northeast Conference Championships in February. The Blue Devils topped Fairfield 84-29 and Sacred Heart 95-16 on the day.
Central posted victories in nine of the day's 13 total events on their way to the sweep. They had wins in individual events, all from nine separate student-athletes.
Central opened the meet taking both first and second place in the 200 meter medley relay. The team consisting on senior Helene Neuhaus, freshman Maddy Garber and sophomores Sabree Thomas and Christine Rasile took first place wih a time of 1:59.27. The team of freshman Maeve Awiszus, sophomore Lisa Ward and juniors Selene Chilton and Alaina Papiro was second coming in at 2:04.40.
Junior Reyna Zascirinskis was second in the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:40.95. Freshman Luna Milne was fifth in the same event at 10:14.53.
Freshman Lauren Czulewicz posted a strong first place finish in the 200 meter freestyle, posting a time of 2:09.91. She finished ahead of Awiszus who was second at 2:12.19.
Freshman Lauren Rasile topped the field in the 50 meter freestyle coming in at 27:51. Ward won the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:26.32. Freshman teammate Katie MacDonnell was just behind with a time of 2:29.87, good for second place.
Freshman Annemarie Durham finished second in the one-meter diving event with a score of 213.75. Senior Kaitlyn Dwyer was right behind in third place at 210.90. Dwyer finished first in the three-meter event with a score 252.30. Junior Kaitlyn Beaver was third in the same event with a score of 212.25.
Thomas posted a first place finish in the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:05.52. Chilton was third, coming in at 1:08.50. The Blue Devils went 1-2 in the 100 meter freestyle event with Christine Rasile first and Lauren Czulewicz coming in second. Rasile posted a time of 59.29 with Czulewicz right behind at 1:00.16.
Another 1-2 finish happened in the 100 meter backstroke as Neuhaus took first (1:05.00) and sophomore Stephanie Czulewicz took second (1:07.44). Senior Karen Novak took first in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 4:34.09.
Garber continued to dominate in the breaststroke posting a win in the 100 meter event with a time of 1:12.54. Papiro was second in a time of 1:15.77.
The Blue Devils ended the day with a victory in the 200 meter freestyle relay as Neuhaus, Christine Rasile, Lauren Czulewicz and Lauren Rasile won with a time of 1:51.73.
