Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Victory vs Wagner

The Central Connecticut women's soccer team secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Wagner, clinching 2nd place in the conference. This win guarantees CCSU a bye and a home playoff game.

Key Moments: 

• Emma Radoncic, a freshman, put the Blue Devils ahead in the 3rd minute with a goal after a free kick by Victoria Violette. The ball deflected off Gia Edwards and a Wagner defender before Radoncic found the top right corner of the net.

• Wagner forward Sara Wiedeman headed in the equalizer in the 65th minute on a beautiful cross from her teammate Juliana Rafaniello.

• In the 77th minute, Gia Edwards led Abbie Burgges with a pass down the left side of the pitch. Burgess beat the Seahawk defender and got a powerful shot off with her left foot to score the game-winning goal for CCSU.

12 - The Blue Devils put the pressure on the Seahawks with a season-high 12 shots on goal to Wagners 3.

Game Notes:

• This was the 27th match between the CCSU women's soccer team and the Wagner Seahawks. The Blue Devils advanced to 25-1-1 vs the Seahawks all-time with the victory. 

• The game-winner from Abbie Burgess solidified second place and a home playoff game for her team. 

• The CCSU women's soccer team ends their season with a 7-0-3 record, 2nd in the regular season behind Merrimack. The Warriors sealed the conference regular season crown with two late goals in the 88th minute to beat LIU Thursday afternoon.

• This is the first time the CCSU women's soccer team has gone undefeated in regular season conference play in back-to-back seasons since 1996-97.
