Women's Soccer Earns Team Ethics & Sportsmanship Award
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named a recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award for 2022-23 it was announced Thursday. The Blue Devils were honored with the Bronze award in recognition of their exhibition of fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the percentage of yellow caution cards and red ejection cards they were shown by referees throughout the season. Central was cautioned with just six yellow cards over a span of 19 games this past season.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to United Soccer Coaches members at four levels. In all, 117 men's and women's teams received either the Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season based on the number of cards accumulated divided by the number of games played (i.e., 5 cards divided by 20 games played is 0.25 or 25%, which qualifies for a Silver Award).
Awards are given at the following levels; Platinum: No cards accumulated during the season, Gold: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 1-10%, Silver: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 11-30%, Bronze: Percentage of cards accumulated during the season ranging from 31-50%.
CCSU was one of 55 programs recognized with the Bronze Award. The Blue Devils captured a fifth straight Northeast Conference regular season title during the 2022 season.
