Women's Soccer to Face Fairleigh Dickinson in NEC Semifinal Friday
Central Connecticut is the top seed in the NEC Tournament.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team enters the 2018 Northeast Conference Tournament as the top seeded team, earning the NEC regular season championship with 24 points and an undefeated record of 8-0. The Blue Devils enter the postseason with a 14-1-2 record overall and have allowed just three goals against NEC opponents. CCSU clinched a spot in postseason with a 3-0 shutout over LIU Brooklyn back on Oct. 14. Central heads into Friday's semifinal against fourth-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson (6-9-3, 4-3-1).
Second-seeded Saint Francis U. will take on third-seeded Mount St. Mary's on Friday at 4 p.m. in the other semifinal match. Friday's winners will play for the league championship on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1:00 p.m. All matches will be broadcast for free on www.NECFrontRow.com.
Tickets will be available the day of the event at CCSU Soccer Field. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and children between the ages of 11-18. Children under the age of 11 and NEC students with an institutional I.D. will be admitted free.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
AGAINST FDU: The Blue Devils and Knights have never met in an NEC semifinal game, but faced each other in the 2014 NEC Championship game. Central won, 2-0, in a game hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson. CCSU gave FDU its first conference loss this season in a 2-1 game in New Britain, CT on Friday, Sept. 28. Central holds a 14-6 overall advantage in the series history.
TO DATE: Central Connecticut is 11-6 in semifinal contests and 19-9 all-time in NEC Tournament play. The last time CCSU hosted the tournament was in 2009 when Monmouth downed the Blue Devils, 1-0, in the championship game.
THE FIELD: CCSU is 2-3 in the tournament all-time against the 2018 field of teams in the NEC Tournament (FDU: 1-0; Mount: 1-0; SFU: 0-3). The New Britain squad is 3-0 this season against Mount St. Mary's, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Saint Francis U.
CAVANAUGH: Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh is reigning Goalkeeper of the Year and broke the program-record for most shutouts in a single-season with 11 so far this year. The previous record was 10 held by Ashley Ferra in 2005. So far this season, Cavanaugh has allowed just eight goals and currently holds the all-time school record for fewest goals allowed in a single-season (12).
