Cavanaugh Named NEC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh named NEC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Cavanaugh claimed her second weekly defensive honor with two shutout performances for the Blue Devils, who improved to 5-1-1 on the year. The Belchertown, MA product held down the fort all week stopping the eight shots she faced in the pair of 1-0 victories over Rhode Island and Lafayette.
Against Lafayette, Cavanaugh made five saves for CCSU, including a stop of a shot by Krista Kissell when she came off her line to deflect the shot over the goal.
The keeper's four clean sheets along with a 0.75 goals against average both stand alone at the top of the Conference.
With this weeks sweep, the Blue Devils are now on a four-game winning streak. Central returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 13, when it travels to Maine for a 6:00 p.m. contest. The game will be held at Yarmouth High School in Yarmouth, ME.
