Cavanaugh Shares Third NEC Defensive Player Weekly Honor, Monday
Cavanaugh was named Co-NEC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
The Northeast Conference chose Central Connecticut women's soccer junior goal keeper Ashley Cavanaugh as the Co-NEC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league's front office on Monday afternoon.
A three-time NEC Defensive Player of the Week pick, Cavanaugh posted a pair of clean sheets in victories that extended CCSU's win streak to four and vaulted the Blue Devils into first place in the NEC standings. Cavanaugh stopped seven shots in wins over Wagner (6-0) and Bryant (1-0).
The Belchertown, MA product leads the NEC with seven shutouts on the year and currently holds a 0.69 goals against average.
CCSU, at the forefront of the conference standings, clinched itself a playoff berth after outlasting Bryant on Sunday.
The Blue Devils will hold a pregame ceremony to honor their senior class of Jennifer Cafferky, Alex Zampini, Kelly Halligan, Brianna Scaladferri and Laura Casañovas Diaz prior to kickoff on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m. against LIU Brooklyn.
With a win Friday night, 18th year head coach Mick D'Arcy will earn his 175th victory at Central. D'Arcy currently holds a record of 174-146-33 (.544).
