Women's Soccer Topped by FDU 1-0
The Blue Devils travel to Emmitsburg, MD on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Mount.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team was unable to pick up a win on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson falling to the Knights 1-0. The Blue Devils will jump back on the road for a quick turnaround match at Mount St. Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1:00 p.m.
Central is now 4-6 and 0-1 in the NEC, while FDU moves on to 3-7-2 and 1-0 in league play.
FDU controlled much of the tempo of the first half and scored on a header in the 36th minute of action when Sofia Albertsson redirected a header into the left post off of a cross from Jessie Reinhardt.
Out of the halftime gate, Central came out with an aggressive offensive mentality firing off five shots in the opening 15 minutes of the half. The Blue Devils were granted back-to-back corner kicks first from junior Yo Tachibana and then from senior Kelly Halligan, in the 58th and 62nd minute, however Central was unable capitalize on the opportunities.
CCSU earned its fifth corner kick of the game at the 84:27 that resulted in a loose ball in the box until the Knight's keeper gathered up one of the Blue Devils last chances sending the game into overtime. With the seconds ticking down, senior captain Brianna Scaldeferri launched a 30-foot laser that curved just right with 12 seconds to go that concluded that contest.
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Cavanaugh tallied three saves and is now an even 4-5 on the year. Halligan carried the Central Connecticut offense with four shots including three on goal.
