Women's Soccer Drops Home-Opener to Harvard 1-0 on Friday
The Blue Devils will take on UConn on Sunday in the tournament finale at 6:00 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's soccer team dropped its home-opener to Ivy League member Havard 1-0 Friday night in the second game of the CCSU Soccer Tournament.
The Blue Devils move their record to 2-2-0 and Harvard improves to 2-1-0.
At the half, the Crimson held a slight 4-2 advantage in shots after 45 minutes of even play from both ends. In the 62nd minute of play, sophomore Carla Jackson went for goal on a free kick about 10 yards outside of the left box and nearly caught the Crimson goal keeper off guard. Shortly after in the 69th minute of action, Harvard's Murphy Agnew put the Ivy League squad up 1-0 with a straight-away shot right outside of the box into the upper right corner of the net for the game's only goal.
Central junior Ashley Cavanaugh recorded three saves in the match and moves her record to 2-2-0 on the year. Central totaled four shots to Harvard's eight. Junior Charlotte Maurer led the Blue Devils with two shots on goal.
In the first game of the CCSU Soccer Tournament the St. John's Red Storm defeated UConn 1-0 earlier on Friday afternoon. Over 500 fans were in attendance between both games at CCSU Soccer Field.
The Blue Devils will host the Huskies of Connecticut in the tournament finale on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 6:00 p.m. Havard is scheduled to play St. John's prior to at 3:30 p.m.
