Turley and Jackson Earn Northeast Conference Weekly Women's Soccer Honors
The Blue Devils are back in NEC action on Friday night on the road at Wagner at 7 p.m.
Senior Nicki Turley and freshman Carla Jackson of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team were honored with Northeast Conference weekly awards it was announced Monday. The duo helped the Blue Devils to a pair of shutout wins in NEC play as CCSU improved to 3-0 in the league.
Turley earned her second NEC Defensive Player of the Week accolade after pushing the Blue Devils to a 3-0 conference mark with her two standout defensive performances. Turley made three saves in a 3-0 win over Bryant on Friday and followed with two more in a 2-0 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. The senior has posted shutouts in all three NEC matches this season and has not allowed a goal in 317:09 minutes with just three goals yielded over the last six games. Turley has compiled a 1.21 GAA and five shutouts on the year.
Jackson earned her second straight NEC Rookie of the Week award as well as her first NEC Player of the Week honor after scoring a goal in each match as the Blue Devils defeated Bryant, 3-0, and LIU Brooklyn, 2-0. Against Bryant, the Scotland native sent a corner to teammate Kelly Halligan, who passed to Brianna Scaldaferri, who then fed the ball back to Jackson for the conversion from 20 yards away in the 50th minute. In Sunday's win over the Blackbirds, Jackson slipped past a defender in the box in the 61st minute to score the final goal in the 2-0 win. The freshman has scored in each of the team's last three NEC games, helping the first place Blue Devils to a 3-0 start. Her six points and three goals are tied for the NEC scoring lead in league play.
