Carr's Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer on Senior Day
Two second half goals lift the Blue Devils over the Seahawsks.
A late blast by freshman Shelbie Carr gave the Central Connecticut women's soccer team a 2-1 win over Wagner on Sunday at CCSU Soccer Field. The Blue Devils erased a deficit in the second half with two goals and improved to 8-5-4 overall and 3-3-2 in Northeast Conference play.
The loss dropped Wagner to 5-12-1 overall and 4-4 in the NEC.
The game-winner came at the 86:31 mark when Carr picked up a loose ball off a failed clearance by Wagner. She took a few dribbles and unleashed a blast from just outside the 18-yard box that went into the upper right corner to make it 2-1 and proved to be the game-winner.
Wagner got on the scoreboard first at the 58:00 mark when Victoria Roda sent a long throw into the box that bounced around before Kayla Bertolino headed the ball to Johanna Konrad who managed to get a boot on it and push it into the net to make it 1-0.
CCSU tied the contest with just over 26 minutes to play when freshman Danielle Pearse crossed from the left wing and the ball skipped across to senior Claire Walsh who was unmarked on the right. Walsh's shot towards goal from inside the area made it through the Wagner defense and tied up the contest, 1-1.
Freshman Ashley Cavanaugh made four saves for the Blue Devils in net to earn the win. Katie Viscardi had four saves for the Seahawks.
Prior to its final game of the 2015 season Central recognized its seven seniors; Charlie Branch, Alysa Christo, Cailynn Harding, Delaney Lancor, Marissa Quesnel and Claire Walsh.
