Santoro Named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week
Freshman Morgan Santoro scored her first career goal and dished her first career assist against Siena on Sunday.
Freshman Morgan Santoro of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week for her outstanding performance this weekend against the Siena Saints, the league announced Monday.
Santoro led the Blue Devils to their first win of the 2013 season over visiting Siena on Sunday. Down by one in the first half, Santoro took a pass from senior Allison Kelley and sent it high into the upper right corner of the net to put CCSU on the board in the 26th minute and tie the game.
Just over one minute after her first career goal, Santoro found junior Julie Lavoie for the game-winning tally and her first career assist. She posted a team-high three points in the game and now leads the Blue Devils in points for the season.
Santoro comes to CCSU from Islip, NY where she played soccer at Islip High School. While at Islip, Santoro was named a 2012 All-American, First Team Long Island, Soffolk County Player of the Year, All-State First Team, All-County First Team, All-Conference First Team as well as All-League First Team. She also leads Long Island in assists and ranks second in points.
Santoro and the rest of the Blue Devils will remain at home for their next contest against Fairfield on Friday, Sept. 20th. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the CCSU Soccer Field and fans can follow the action live, for free, on www.NECFrontRow.com.
