Robinson and Deiter Named Captains
Blue Devils will open the 2012 season on
Head women's soccer coach Mick D'Arcy recently announced his captains for the 2012 season. Juniors Jewel Robinson and Nikola Deiter will lead the Blue Devils into the 2012 year, which begins on the road at Boston University on August 17th.
It will mark the second season as a captain for Robinson and the first time for Deiter.
"Jewel gained valuable experience serving the team as captain in her sophomore year. She has grown as a person and matured as a leader," D'Arcy said. "Niki is a winner. She is driven to compete at the highest levels. We are looking for Niki to instill her competitive drive to the team."
Robinson was a First Team All-Conference selection, and an All-New England selection, following the 2011 season. She was also a Second Team All-Conference pick as a freshman. In 2011 she helped the Blue Devil defense hold opponents to a 1.36 goals against average. She also contributed two goals over the course of the season.
Deiter has started all but two games in her first two seasons with the Blue Devils. This past year she posted a goals against average of 1.35 and a save percentage of .802. For her career she has recorded 11 wins, eight of them coming via the shutout.
"I'm excited about the combination of their leadership styles and the other layers of leadership within the team, specifically our seniors Erin (Egan), Cara (Cavallari), Ashlee (Barrow), Annie (Freer) and Leanne (Hollister)," D'Arcy said.
The Blue Devils will open the season on the road at Boston University on August 17th. Their first home game on the new CCSU Soccer Field will be on Sunday, September 2 vs. Providence College at 1 p.m.
