Freshman named NEC Rookie of the Week for the third time this season
Central Connecticut freshman Rosie Maguire scored a pair of goals in a 2-2 double overtime draw at Sacred Heart on Sunday. For her efforts she was named the Northeast Conference adidas/Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.
Maguire, who also earned the honor last week, is tied for second in the league in overall scoring (13 points) and leads the league in points per game (1.62). She is also tied for second in the league in totla goals (five) and is second in goals per game (0.62). Her three assists are tied for the top spot in the league, as are her assists per game (0/38).
The freshman continues to be a spark on offense for Central Connecticut as she scored both goals in the Blue Devils' double overtime tie with NEC rival Sacred Heart on Sunday. Trailing 2-0 at intermission the native of Ireland took matters into her own hands. She blasted a penalty kick past the SHU goalie to put the Blue Devils on the board in the 56th minute. Eight minutes later, Maguire took a pass from Allison Kelly at the top of the box and launched a shot into the upper 90 to knot the score at 2 apiece.
This was the first multi-goal game of the rookie's career. She now leads CCSU with five goals and 13 points on the season.
