Women's Soccer Duo Honored by NEC
Jackson and Maguire lead Blue Devils to 2-0 week
A pair of Central Connecticut women's soccer player earned adidas/Northeast Conference weekly honors on Monday. Senior Brittany Jackson was named the Player of the Week and teammate Rosie Maguire was named the Rookie of the Week. It is the second Rookie honor for Maguire.
Jackson records adidas/NEC Player of the Week honors after a dominant offensive weekend. The senior came up with three goals and two assists for a total of seven points as the Blue Devils posted a 2-0 record.
Jackson had the hot foot, scoring all three goals on Friday night as CCSU posted a 3-2 overtime win against Albany. The forward scored two goals in the first half but saved her best for last, converting a header in the left side of the box during the first overtime for the game winner. The Connecticut product continued her hot play on Sunday in the Blue Devil's 3-1 win over Siena as she dished out the assist on the first goal of the game.
Jackson's seven points was the highest weekly output of her career.
Maguire notches her second adidas/NEC Rookie of the Week nod following another strong offensive performance for the Blue Devils. In CCSU's Friday night showdown with Albany, Maguire tallied two assists in the first half as CCSU collected the 3-2 victory in overtime over the Great Danes.
In the first half on Sunday against Siena, Maguire corralled a rebound to score the game's first goal, her third of the season, as Central rolled to a 3-1 victory over the Saints.
Maguire currently leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists.
The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday on the road at Sacred Heart.
