Maguire Earns NEC Rookie Honor
Freshman scored twice and had an assists last week for the Blue Devils
Central Connecticut freshman Rosie Maguire was named the adidas/Northeast Conference women's soccer rookie of the week on Tuesday. Maguire and the Blue Devils went 1-1-0 last week, including a 2-1 victory over Providence.
Maguire took little time making an impact for the Blue Devil women's soccer program. Playing just the second and third games of her career last week, she registered two goals and one assists as Central went 1-1-0 at the Yale University Tournament this weekend.
In a 2-1 win over Providence, Maguire posted her first career points. Just 1:04 into the game she scored her first career goal to give Central a 1-0 lead. Just 2:30 minutes later, she assisted on the game's second goal to give the Blue Devils the two goal edge.
She scored her second career goal on a penalty kick in a 2-1 loss to Marist on Sunday. Maguire leads the Blue Devils in scoring with two goals and one assist on the season, good for five points.
Maguire and the Blue Devils return to action on Friday at 5 p.m. against Holy Cross in the Fairfield University Classic in Fairfield, CT.
