Men's and Women's Soccer Receive Academic Honor from the NSCAA
The Central Connecticut men's and women's soccer teams have been honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. Central is one of 129 schools that had both their men's and women's team recognized. To be eligible for the award a team must obtain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Central Connecticut men's and women's soccer teams have been honored with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. Central is one of 129 schools that had both their men's and women's team recognized. To be eligible for the award a team must obtain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This is the ninth consecutive year that the Blue Devil women's soccer team has earned the award.
The women's soccer team finished the season with a 9-9-2 record, but a 5-3-2 mark in Northeast Conference action. They earned the fourth seed in the conference tournament, marking their ninth consecutive tournament appearance. The Blue Devils streak of NSCAA Academic Award's also stretched to nine this Fall with a 3.24 team G.P.A. Five Blue Devils were named All-NEC for their on-field performance, seniors Beth Lloyd and Abby Graham were named first team and senior Clio Tregear and freshmen Allison Kelley and Jewel Robinson earned second team honors.
On the men's side the Blue Devils finished with a 4-10-3 record and a 1-6-3 mark in conference action. In the classroom the Blue Devils were much more successful posting a 3.00 G.P.A. to earn the NSCAA Academic Award. The Blue Devils were led on and off the pitch by senior captain Robert Cavener who was named to the ESPN/Academic All-District First Team and was selected to the All-NEC First Team.
