NEC Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll Announced
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team was picked eighth in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll it was announced on Tuesday. The Blue Devils are slated to open the season on Feb. 20 at LIU.
Head coach Betsy Vendel is set to begin her third season in charge of the Blue Devils. Vendel's squad returns leading scorer, graduate student Morgan Sinton, as well as senior Cooper Cowdin who started all six games between the posts last season. Sinton scored a team-leading nine goals with five assists. Senior Nina Sutton is also back for the Blue Devils after posting 19 draw controls and five caused turnovers. Cowdin made 65 saves and had 30 groundballs for CCSU.
Two-time defending NEC champion Wagner earned six first-place votes and was picked to finish first, followed by Mount St. Mary's which received two votes. Bryant was third followed by LIU, Saint Francis U, Sacred Heart, Merrimack and CCSU.
The Blue Devils played just six games in 2020 before the season was ended by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Central opens Northeast Conference play on March 6 hosting Wagner. The NEC tournament will be held on May 6 and 8 at the site of the highest seed.
