Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Holy Cross on Saturday
Blue Devils back in action at Hartford on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener on the road at Holy Cross on Saturday, 20-3, to fall to 0-1 on the season. Three different Blue Devils scored in the game, while senior goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made 16 saves in goal in the loss.
Central returns to action on Wednesday at Hartford at 3 p.m.
Branthover's 16 saves in the game move her to 426 in her career, just 26 shy of moving into third place on the Blue Devils' all-time list. She made 10 saves in the first half, and six in the second on Saturday.
Junior Molly Coogan, sophomore Carrisa Brown and freshman Jessica Denike each scored for the Blue Devils in the game. The goal from Denike was the first of her career. Junior Morgan Sinton added an assist.
Holy Cross was led by Keely Connors who had five goals and one assist in the win for the Crusaders, who are now 1-1. A pair of goalkeepers combined for three saves.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hartford for a 3 p.m. start.
