Women's Lacrosse Falls at Stetson on Monday Night
The Blue Devils will play at Jacksonville on Wednesday.
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Stetson, 15-11, on Monday in DeLand, FL. The Hatters scored four unanswered goals to break a tie in the second half and held off the Blue Devils. Sophomore Megan Szawlowski scored five goals and had two assists to lead the CCSU attack.
The loss drops Central to 1-5 on the year, while Stetson improves to 1-5.
Stetson opened the game's scoring, before Szawlowski converted two free position shots to give Central a 2-1 lead at the 17:51 mark of the opening period.
After Stetson tied the game, Szawlowski scored on an unassisted effort to give the Blue Devils the lead. Sophomore Cameron Ruberti would then score off a feed from classmate Morgan Sinton to make it 4-2 with 4:29 to go in the half.
Stetson would rally with two goals in the final minute of the period to send the teams into halftime tied, 4-4.
The Hatters continued their run to open the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to make it 7-4. The Blue Devils would respond with three straight of their own to tie the game. Ruberti and senior Marissa Cotroneo would score consecutive goals off of assists from Sinton before Szawlowski scored unassisted to tie the game with 25:18 to play.
Stetson stopped the CCSU run with a goal that was answered by Sinton to make it 8-8 with 23:02 remaining.
The Hatters took control with a string of seven unanswered goals. The Blue Devils would mount a late rally, beginning with Szawloski's fifth goal of the game to make it 15-9 with 7:53 to go. Freshman Olivia Prizzi would score off a pass from Szawlowski and then junior Carson Adelberger scored with 1:34 remaining to make it 15-11, but the CCSU rally would run out of time.
Junior Jackie Branthover made 11 saves for CCSU. Ruberti would finish with two goals, while Sinton had a goal and three assists.
Central is back in action on Wednesday, March 14, at Jacksonville.
