Women's Lacrosse Dominates in Home Win Over Hartford on Tuesday
Sophomore Megan Szawlowski leads the offense with seven goals
Sophomore Megan Szawlowski scored a career-high seven goals to help pace the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team to a 19-4 home victory over Hartford on Tuesday afternoon. The win moves the Blue Devils to 1-3 overall on the season heading into Friday's home game vs. Siena. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-4 on the season.
Seven different Blue Devils scored a goal in the victory, paced by Szawlowski whose seven goals give her 11 on the season. She is the team leader in that category. Sophomore Morgan Sinton matched her career-high with four goals in the victory, she added an assist for five points on the day.
Central took a 11-0 lead in the first half before the Hawks got on the board with their first goal of the game. Szawlowski scored four times during the opening run for the Blue Devils. They led 11-1 at the half.
The Hawks cut the Blue Devil lead to 13-4 with 16:45 left in the second half before the Blue Devils put the game away with an explosive final 15 minutes. Central scored six times in the final 15 minutes, including three from Szawlowski and two from Sinton.
Seniors Marissa Cotroneo each added two goals and an assist in the victory. Sophomore Molly Coogan added two goals and two assists. Sophomore Cameron Ruberti added one goal and an assist and freshman Carrisa Brown added her first career goal in the win.
Junior Jackie Branthover picked up her first win of the season in goal, making 10 saves and allowing just the four goals.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Siena on Friday at 4 p.m. on Arute Field.
