Lacrosse Stopped at Hofstra in Saturday Tilt
The Blue Devils host Fairfield on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Central Connecticut was stopped at Hofstra, 21-3, in women's lacrosse action on Saturday in Hempstead, NY. The Pride scored the first 11 goals of the game and did not look back, as the Blue Devils fell to 1-7 overall on the year. Central is back in action, hosting Fairfield on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
Hofstra scored three goals in the opening two minutes to get off to a fast start and never looked back. The Pride would score 11 unanswered goals in the opening 13:22, including three apiece from Becky Conto and Morgan Knox to take control of the game.
CCSU would get on the board at the 13:38 mark when freshman Cameron Ruberti fed senior Marissa Soto a pass, who converted her shot for a goal to make it 11-1.
Hofstra would score four straight goals spanning both halves to build a 15-1 margin before Soto would get her second goal of the day for Central. Soto took a pass from freshman Megan Szawlowski to score her 17th of the season.
The Pride would respond with two goals before senior Jessica Giangarra scored off an unassisted effort to round out CCSU's scoring with 8:46 to play.
Hofstra would close out the game with five unanswered goals for the final margin.
Sophomore Jackie Branthover made six saves for the Blue Devils. Soto would finish with two goals on five shots to lead the Central attack.
Maddie Fields had seven saves for the Pride. Conto finished the day with four goals and assist to lead Hofstra.
The Blue Devils return to action against Fairfield on Wednesday, March 29, at 2:00 p.m. on Arute Field.
