Blue Devils Stopped at Home by Lafayette on Saturday
Six different CCSU players scored a goal in the loss
Six different Blue Devils scored a goal but it wasn't enough as Lafayette came away with a 17-6 victory on Arute Field on Saturday. In single digit temperatures the Leopards scored 16 first half half goals to move to 4-2 overall on the season. Central falls to 0-4 with the loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jackie Branthover posted eight saves for the Blue Devils in the loss. Senior Jessica Giangarra had a goal and two assists to leads the CCSU offense.
The Leopards took control from the start. With a 2-0 Lafayette, freshman Morgan Sinton scored for the Blue Devils to make it 2-1 with 25:58 to play before halftime. Lafayette then scored three straight goals to push the lead to 5-1 before Central junior Kylie Sullivan found the back of the net to make the score 5-2.
The Leopards answered and scored 12 of the game's next 13 goals, all before halftime, to take a 16-3 lead at the break.
The Blue Devils scored three times in the second half, including one from Giangarra, one from freshman Megan Szawlowski and one from freshman Cameron Ruberti, her first career goal with the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils will play their third straight home game on Friday, Mar. 10, hosting St. Mary's at 1 p.m. on Arute Field.
