Five Blue Devils Earn All-Conference Honors on Thursday
CCSU places five on First, Second and All-Rookie Teams
Five members of the Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team were honored by the Northeast Conference on Thursday night. The Blue Devils placed two plays on the first team, two more on the second and had two freshmen on the All-Rookie Team.
Senior Madison Hughes and junior Courtney McPartland were picked to the First Team at midfielder and defender. Junior Kelsey Murphy was named to the Second Team as a defender, while freshman goalkeeper Jackie Branthover was also named to the Second Team.
Branthover and classmate Jenna Henningsen were two of six members named to the All-Rookie Team.
Hughes finished a spectacular senior season as the team's leading scorer with 26 goals and 14 assists, good for 40 total points. She finished ninth in the league in points per game in conference play (2.71), and added 40 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers on the season. She started all six games this season.
McPartland and Murphy each played all 16 games for the Blue Devils this season and led a defense that finished fifth in goals against average in league play (10.20). McPartland finished the season with 34 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers. Murphy had 28 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers on the season.
Branthover has a tremendous freshman season playing and starting all 16 games for the Blue Devils, recording over 900 minutes of action and making 135 saves. She finished fourth in the conference in save percentage in league play (.455) and second in the league in NEC play in saves per game (7.86).
Henningsen finished fifth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and two assists in her first season with the Blue Devils. She started 13 of her 16 games played in her rookie season.
