Women's Lacrosse Wins on Senior Day
Blue Devils scored game's final four goals to win 9-7
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team scored the final four goals of the game and held Wagner scoreless in the final 19:07 of the game as the Blue Devils came away with a 9-7 victory on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Blue Devils finish their season 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast Conference. Wagner is now 8-9 overall and 5-2 in league action.
The Blue Devils led 3-1 with 11:38 left in the first half after goals from junior Madison Hughes, sophomore Falynn McCartney and sophomore Alexandra Hooker. But Wagner answered before the break, scoring twice to tie the game 3-3.
The Seahawks scored the first two goals of the second half to build a 5-3 lead, but McCartney scored her second goal of the game with under 24 minutes to play to cut the lead to 5-4.
Wagner answered less than a minute later, but Central sophomore Marissa Soto scored her first goal of the game at 20:48 to make it 6-5. Wagner scored with 19:08 on the clock to push the lead back to two goals, 7-5. The second goal of the game from Hughes cut the lead to 7-6 less than a minute later and Soto tied the game with her second goal with 16:42 left.
Sophomore Erin Dougherty scored her first goal of the game on a beautiful feed from McCartney in front of the net to give the Blue Devils and 8-7 lead with 14:23 on the clock. The goal was the third straight for CCSU after trailing 7-5.
Sophomore Jessica Giangarra's first goal of the season at 6:33 pushed the CCSU lead to 9-7. The Blue Devils and senior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar would not allow a goal the rest of the way as the Blue Devils posted their second straight victory.
Tullar ended the game with 10 saves, posting her sixth victory of the season and 22nd of her career, extending her own school record.
Central held a 22-21 advantage in shots in the game, and a 28-25 edge in ground balls. They forced 19 Wagner turnovers in the game.
Prior to the game the Blue Devils honored the three members of their senior class. Tullar and classmates Brigit Hogan and Jessica Sudock were honored, along with their families, following four seasons with the Blue Devils.
