Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Robert Morris
Blue Devils will finish regular season with a pair of home games next week
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its third one-goal game in its last four decisions on Sunday, dropping a 9-8 road decision at Robert Morris. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 4-10 overall and 1-4 in Northeast Conference play. The Colonials are 9-5 overal and 2-3 in league action.
The 9-8 loss marks the third one-goal loss for the Blue Devils in league action this season. They have also lost 9-8 vs. LIU Brooklyn and 6-5 at Sacred Heart. In all, the Blue Devils' four league losses have come by just seven total goals.
Senior Brigit Hogan, junior Falynn McCartney and sophomore Alexandra Hooker each scored a pair of goals in the loss. Hooker added an assist, while junior Madison Hughes and freshman Kylie Sullivan each added a goal.
Senior goalkeeper Morgan Tullar made eight saves in the loss.
The Colonials led 6-4 at the half after scoring four of the final five goals before the break, including two from Emma Baukhages.
Central answered after halftime, and after falling behind 7-5, the scored the next three goals, including two straight from Hogan, to take an 8-7 lead. Sullivan's only goal of the game came at 7:41 and gave the Blue Devils their first lead since it was 2-1 in the first half.
Robert Morris would answer, however, and hold the Blue Devils scoreless the rest of the way. Kristin Yoviene tied the game with 1:39 left, and then Emily Jamison scored the game-winner with under a minute to play.
Sophomore Erin Dougherty had five ground balls and three caused turnovers in the loss. Sophomore Marissa Soto added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
Central returns to action with a pair of home games to finish the regular season. The Blue Devils will host Mount St. Mary's on Friday at 4 p.m. and then finish the regular season at home vs. Wagner on Sunday, April 26, at 1 p.m.
