Tullar, Women's Lax Win at St. Francis U, 17-5
Tullar Sets School Record With 20th Career win
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team picked up its first conference win of the season, in convincing fashion, topping St. Francis U 17-5 on the road on Friday night. With the victory the Blue Devils are now 4-9 overall and 1-3 in Northeast Conference play.
Senior Morgan Tullar made an impressive 10 stops in net on 15 shots on goal to earn her fourth win of the season. She set a new school record with her 20th career victory.
The Red Flash took a 2-1 lead 10 minutes into the game but the Blue Devils would grab control of the action for the remainder of the half to take a commanding 8-2 advantage into halftime.
Sophomore Erin Dougherty scored three straight goals in a span of less than six minutes to give the Blue Devils the 4-2 edge with 14:16 on the clock. Sophomore Alexandra Hooker scored the first of her two goals to push the lead to 5-2, and then junior Falynn McCartney scored her first goal of the game to make it 6-2.
Sophomore Marissa Soto and junior Madison Hughes would score before the end of the half to give Central the six-goal lead at the break.
The Blue Devils continued their run to begin the second half, scoring the first three goals and pushing the lead to 11-2. The run would see the Blue Devils scored 10 straight goals over a 28 minute span before the Red Flash could find the back of the net again.
To begin the half McCartney, Soto and Hooker all scored to make it 11-2. Following a pair of Red Flash goals Central would score six of the game's final seven goals to come away with the 17-5 win.
Central held a 17-6 advantage on draw controls in the game and outshot the Red Flash 40-20.
Hughes finished the game with two goals, four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers. Soto had a pair of goals, four grounds balls, four draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. McCartney and Dougherty each scored three goals in the win. McCartney added three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Freshman Kylie Sullivan scored twice and added an assist. Hooker had a pair of goals and an assist.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Sunday on the road at Robert Morris.
