Fairfield Tops Women's Lacrosse 13-9 on Friday
Blue Devils play again on Wednesday at Manhattan
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-9 decision at home to Fairfield on Friday afternoon, falling to 1-5 on the season. Central trailed 9-2 at the half and made a run on the Stags in the second half, but eventually came up just short of their first home win of the season.
The Stag lead stretched to 11-3 with 24:08 left in the second half on the second goal of the game from Julieanne Mascera.
Central Connecticut junior Falynn McCartney would then fuel a Blue Devil comeback that saw Central score six of the game's final eight goals.
Back-to-back goals from McCartney cut the Stag lead to 11-5 at the 21:42 mark on the second half. Fairfield answered, however, with two straight goals to push the advantage back to 13-5 with just under 20 minutes to play.
The Blue Devils would hold the Stags scoreless the rest of the way, scoring four unanswered goals to cut the lead to 13-9 with 3:40 left in the game.
McCartney assisted on the first goal of the game from sophomore Marissa Soto at the 10:26 mark. Senior Brigit Hogan scored followed by the third goal of the game from McCartney. Soto scored her second and final goal with 3:40 left. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final 3:40.
Senior Morgan Tullar made eight stops in net in the loss. Chelset Sidaras and Caleigh O'Connor combined to made 11 saves for the Stags in the victory.
Central is back in action on the road for its next two games, playing first on Mar. 18 at Manhattan at 4 p.m. and then on Mar. 21 at Vermont at 1 p.m. Their next home game will take place on Mar. 25 at 4 p.m. vs. Quinnipiac.
