Women's Lax Tops Iona 10-8 on the Road on Saturday
Blue Devil pick up their first win of the season
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the 2015 season with a 10-8 victory on the road at Iona on Saturday. Central is now 1-1 on the year.
Senior Morgan Tullar made an impressive 15 saves in the victory as the Blue Devils outscored Iona 8-4 in the second half and came back from a 4-1 deficit to post the victory.
Sophomore Alexandra Hooker led the Blue Devils with three goals in the game. It's the fourth time in her career that she has scored three or more goals in a game. She had 15 goals in her first season with the Blue Devils a year ago.
Junior Madison Hughes, freshman Kylie Sullivan and sophomore Marissa Soto each added four goals in the win.
The Blue Devils trailed 4-1 in the first half, and the Gaels would take a 4-2 lead at halftime. The lead would reach 5-2 in the second half before Central would score three straight goals to tie the game 5-5.
With the game tied 8-8 the Blue Devils would score the final two goals over the last 2:57 to claim the road victory.
Tullar's 15 saves mark the eighth time in her career that she has posted 15 or more saves in a game.
Hughes added a pair of assists in the game, as well as three draw controls. The Blue Devils had 12 draw controls in the game, and caused nine turnovers by the Gaels. Erin Dougherty caused three turnovers and also grabbed a team-high four ground balls. The Blue Devils were successful on 13-of-20 clear attempts in the game
The Blue Devils will play their next two games at home, hosting Siena on Friday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. on Arute Field. They will also host Brown on Sunday, March 1 at 12 noon.
