Women's Lax Opens 2014 Season on Saturday
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team will open the 2014 season against La Salle on Saturday.
The 2014 Central Connecticut women's lacrosse season opens with a visit from the Explorers of La Salle on Saturday, February 22. The Explorers earned and 8-7 overtime victory in last season's meeting in Philadelphia. Saturday's contest is the first trip to New Britain for the Explorers and the second meeting in the all-time series between these programs.
CCSU and La Salle are scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start on Arute Field, admission is free for all CCSU women's lacrosse contests. Fans can also watch every home game on NECFrontRow.com
Women's Lacrosse Season Preview
The Blue Devils return eight starters from the 2013 squad that reached the Northeast Conference Tournament. Included in those eight are First Team All-NEC selection Amanda Toke, Second Team All-NEC selection Morgan Tullar and NEC All-Rookie selection Elyse Malecki.
The season opener will be the first under new head coach Laura Campbell who assumed control of the program in August. Prior to CCSU, Campbell has had stints as the head coach of Marist, American and Post University. At Marist Campbell led the Red Foxes to their first NCAA Tournament Appearance.
La Salle is playing its third game of the season after earning a 17-5 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 17 and a 7-4 victory over Temple on Feb. 19.
CCSU will also play at home this Wednesday, Feb. 26. Iona will visit Arute Field for a 4 p.m. contest.
