Williams Ties for Second, Women's Golf Fourth at Seahawk Invitational
Ella Williams leads Blue Devils and ties for second overall
Senior Ella Williams shot a second round score of 74 and tied for second place overall as the Central Connecticut women's golf team climbed to fourth place at the 2017 Seahawks Invitational hosted by Wagner College. The tournament was played at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
The Blue Devils shot a day two score of 310 on Monday, the second-best round of the day and the third-best overall team round of the entire tournament. The Blue Devils, who were in sixth place after round one on Sunday, finished the two-day tournament with a score of 628 (318-310).
Williams paced Central with a tremendous round of 74 on Monday, the second-lowest round of the day in the 58-player field. Her two round score of 151 tied for second place and was just one shot off the lead. She was at her best on the par-5's in the two round tournament, posting a score of -1, the best of all competitors. She had four birdies overall in 36 holes.
Freshman Kristyna Abrahamova fired a second round score of 78, putting her in a tie for 13th place overall with a score of 157.
Junior Cecy Gutierrez improved six strokes on Monday and shot a score of 78, giving her a two-day total of 162, good for a tie for 24th. She was tied with junior teammate Tara Whelan who shot 84 on Monday and also finished with a score of 162.
Senior Kaitlyn Stoddart who an 80 on Monday, improving eight strokes from Sunday's round, and finished at 168, good for a tie for 34th place overall.
Sacred Heart won the team title with a score of 609, followed by Quinnipiac (621), Navy (623) and then the Blue Devils. St. Francis U (638) was fifth, followed by Wagner (644), LIU Brooklyn (659), Niagara (673), Delaware State (785) and then St. Francis Brooklyn (890).
