Women's Golf Finishes Sixth at NEC Championships
Ella Williams leads the Blue Devils
The Central Connecticut women's golf team finished in sixth place at the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships on Sunday, led by sophomore Ella Williams who finished in 12th place overall. The tournament took place over three days at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, FL.
Williams shot 80 on Sunday to lead the Blue Devils. Her three-day score of 237 (+21) was only three strokes out of sixth place.
Freshman Tara Whelan finished in 17th place, one of three Blue Devils in the top-20, after an 82 on Sunday, giving her a three-round score of 244. Right behind her was sophomore teammate Kaitlyn Stoddart who shot an 82 on Sunday, giving her a three-day total of 247.
Freshman Cecy Gutierrez shot 85 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 23rd place with a total of 249. Junior Sarah Boden shot 87 on Sunday and finished with a 259, good for 30th place overall.
Fairleigh Dickinson rallied for a three-stroke victory with a team score of 304 on Sunday, posting a total of 939. LIU Brooklyn also shot 304 on Sunday, matching the best team round of the tournament, to finish in second place with a score of 942. Wagner College, the leader of each of the first two rounds, shot 318 on the final day. Sacred Heart was fourth, St. Francis U was fifth, the Blue Devils (973) were sixth followed by St. Francis Brooklyn in seventh.
