Women's Golf Wins Twice on Friday at IUPUI
Blue Devils top Valparaiso and Wisconsin Green Bay
The Central Connecticut women's golf team won a pair of matches on Friday, topping Valparaiso 5-0 and then winning 3-2 over Wisconsin Green Bay on Friday afternoon. The matches were played at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, IN. The course is a par-72 and measures 6,035 yards. The Blue Devils will also play one more match on Saturday.
The Blue Devils topped Valparaiso in the first match of the day, winning 5-0, including a pair of convincing victories from the two freshman on the roster. Freshman Cecy Gutierrez shot a 74 and won her match 6 and 4. Classmate Tara Whelan won her match 7 and 6, also shooting a 74.
Junior Sarah Boden shot a 76 and won her match 3 and 2. Sophomore Kaitlyn Stoddart fired an 81 and won her match 2 and 1. Sophomore Ella Williams shot a 77 and one her match one up.
Central then topped Wisconsin Green Bay 3-2 in the afternoon match. Gutierrez and Boden each halved their match to give the Blue Devils one point. Stoddart won her second match of the day, 5 and 4, while Whelan also won her second match, 3 and 1. Williams fell 4 and 3 in her match.
The Blue Devils lead the overall scoring among the four teams with eight points, followed by Green Bay with 5.5, IUPUI with 4.5 and Valparaiso with two.
The Blue Devils will face IUPUI on Saturday, while Green Bay and Valparaiso will square off.
