Whelan Ties for Ninth at Brown Bear Invite
Freshman posts two round score of 150 to lead CCSU
Freshman Tara Whelan fired a two round score of 150 (74-76) to finish in a tie for ninth place to lead the Central Connecticut women's golf team in the Brown Bear Invitational that concluded on Monday. Whelan and the Blue Devils took five shots off their first round score and shot 317 in the second round on Monday, moving up one spot and finishing in 11th place in the 16-team field.
The Blue Devils shot a score of 639 over the two-day tournament, finishing just one stroke behind Quinnipiac for 10th place. Yale won the tournament followed by Princeton, Boston University, Penn and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Whelan's total put her in the top-10 and was only six strokes back of the individual champion.
Sophomore Ella Williams was three strokes better in the second round and shot a 79 on Monday, giving her a total of 161 and a tie for 48th place. Junior Sarah Boden cut four strokes off her Sunday total and shot 80 on Monday, good for a tie for 56th place with a 164.
Freshman Cecy Gutierrez shot 82 on Monday, two strokes better than her round one total, and finished at 166, good for a tie for 63rd place. Freshman Kaitlyn Stoddart shot 82-86 and finished in a tie for 68th place overall.
