Whelan Leads Women's Golf at Brown
Freshman sits in a tie for 6th place
Freshman Tara Whelan shot a round one score of 74 and sits in a sixth place tie after the first round of the Brown Bear Invitational on Sunday. Whelan's score is just two strokes back of the leaders who shot a 72 on the first day. The tournament is being played at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence, RI.
As a team the Blue Devils shot a round one score of 322 and sit in a tie for 12th place in the 16-team field. Yale leads after the first day with a team score of 295.
Whelan's round of of 74 was the best of the day for the Blue Devils and the third-best round of the entire field.
Sophomores Ella Williams and Kaitlyn Stoddart each shot 82 and sit in a tie for 54th place overall. Junior Sarah Boden and freshman Cecy Gutierrez each shot 84 and are tie for 66th place.
The second and final round will take place on Monday.
