Women's Golf Completes Play at Pirate Invitational
Bllue Devils improve 32 strokes in Friday's second round
The Central Connecticut women's golf team completed the second and final round on Friday at the 2015 Pirate Invitational being hosted by Seton Hall University. The tournament took place at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ. The course is a par 72 and measures 5,802 yards.
Central shot a day two team score of 320, 32 strokes better than Thursday's round.
Freshman Tara Whelan took 20 strokes off of her round one score and shot a team-best 77 on the second and final day of the tournament. She finished in 67th place overall and her 77 on Friday was just five strokes back of the day's top score.
Sophomore Ella Williams improved 12 strokes from her round one score and fired an 80 on the second day on Friday. She finished with a two-day score 172, good for a tie for 63rd place.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Stoddart shot an 81 on Friday, good for a two-day score of 168 and 57th place overall. Stoddart was six strokes better on Friday than her Thursday score. Freshman Cecy Gutierrez shot 82 and posted a score of 169. She improved five strokes from her Thursday round.
Junior Sarah Boden shot an 85 on Friday, finishing with a two-day total of 171.
Georgia won the tournament with a two-day score of 599. Princeton (607) was second, followed by Columbia (613) and Pennsylvania and Georgetown who tied for fourth place with a score of 626.
The Blue Devils will continue their spring season at the Brown Invitational in Providence, RI, on April 12-13.
