Women's Golf Completes Play at Lonnie Barton Invitational
Boden fires an 81 in final round for the Blue Devils
The Central Connecticut women's golf team completed the second and final round of the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Daytona Beach, FL on Tuesday. The tournament was hosted by LIU Brooklyn at the LPGA International-Jones Course.
Junior Sarah Boden was the top finisher for the Blue Devils with a two round score of 167 (86-81). She took five rounds off of her first round score on Tuesday and shot a team-best round of 81. She finished in a tie for 40th place overall.
Freshman Cecy Gutierrez took two strokes off of her score and shot 83 on Tuesday, to finish in a tie for 43rd place overall. She shot 85-83 for a two round score of 168.
Freshman Tara Whelan, who shot the top round of the day on Monday for CCSU, shot 94 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 61st place with a two round score of 176 (82-94). Sophomore Kaitlyn Stoddart made the biggest jump for CCSU taking eight strokes off of her round one score of 94 and shooting 86 on Tuesday. She finished in a tie for 72nd overall.
LIU Brooklyn won the team title with a score of 624 (319-305), 11 strokes better than Siena (635), Albany (638), St. Francis U (639) and St. John's (640) rounded out the top five. Central shot a two-day score of 691 (347-344).
MONDAY'S RECAP
The Blue Devils shot a round one score of 347 on the day, and sit in 14th place overall.
Whelan led the way for the Blue Devils with a round one score of 82. She is tied for 35th place overall. Gutierrez fired a score of 85 and sits in a tie for 48th place overall.
Boden shot 86 and is in a tie for 55th place. Stoddart shot 94 and is in 79th place.
St. John's (302) sits in first place in the team standings. Albany (317), LIU Brooklyn (319), St. Francis U (320) and Bucknell (320) round out the top five.
