Four Blue Devils Score in Double Figures in a 69-61 Victory Over Wagner
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated The Wagner Seahawks 69-61, at the Detrick Gym on Thursday night.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team defeated The Wagner Seahawks 69-61, at the Detrick Gym on Thursday night. Williams, Watson, Sellers, and Lanoher were all in double figures for Central.
Amaya Williams and Samora Watson led the Blue Devils with 15 points. Watson also tallied eight rebounds and three assists. Williams was 5-of-7 from the floor, 1-for-2 from three-point range, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the stripe. Alonna Sellers netted 13 points and was active on the defensive end all night for CCSU.
Wagner was led by Kiera Edmonds who had 22 points and 11 rebounds. She scored 10 points in the third quarter when Wagner outscored Central 21-9 and shot 72.7% from the field.

Amaya Williams started things off for The Blue Devils with a three-pointer a minute and a half into the game. Wagner took an 8-7 lead with 6:04 left in the quarter after a jumper from Rakisha Ballinger. The Seahawks were without a field goal for the rest of the quarter. Central went on a 14-0 run to take a 21-8 lead with 0:57 seconds left after a Samora Watson pull-up jumper. Wagner made two free throws to end the first stanza and Central led 21-10 after one.

Meghan Kenefick hit a mid-range jumper 20 seconds into the second quarter. Belle Lanpher nailed a three-pointer at the 9:13 mark to extend CCSU's lead to 26-10. Seahawks guard Semie Brar cut Central's lead to 14 (35-21) with a three-pointer and 4:06 left in the first half. Alonna Sellers broke a two-minute scoring drought for the Blue Devils with a layup at the 2:50 mark that gave her team a 37 - 21 lead. Amaya Williams hit back-to-back layups that gave CCSU a 41-25 lead over Wagner with 0:25 left that would hold to the end of the first half.

The first basket of the quarter was scored by Wagner forward Kiera Edmonds who chipped into the Blue Devils lead (41-27) with 8:22 left in the third. Edmonds would score 10 straight and Wagner's 10-3 run cut Central's lead to 42-34 with 5:42 left in the third. Alonna Sellers made two straight baskets that kept the CCSU lead to 10 (48-38) with 3:36 left in the quarter. The Seahawks would end the quarter with an 8-0 run trailing Central 50-46 after Rakisha Ballinger hit a jumper with 0:04 seconds left.

Meghan Kenefick knocked down Central's second basket of the fourth quarter at the 8:49 mark, giving Central a 54-46 lead. Belle Lanpher drove to the hoop, drew a defender, and dished it off to Alonna Sellers who scored with 4:26 left to put the Blue Devils up 50-64. Paige Lyons would cash in a layup for Wagner to cut the deficit to 65-58 but with only 0:23 left to play. Amaya Williams knocked down four free throws to seal the Blue Devils' 69-61 victory at the Detrick Gym Thursday night.
