Lanpher & Toppin Pace Women's Basketball Win Against SHU

KEY MOMENTS   

• CCSU opened the scoring with a three-pointer from Lara Rohkohl and the Pioneers retaliated with back-to-back layups. 

• The teams traded baskets before the Blue Devils hit their stride, going on a 10-0 run consisting of a Dejah Jenkins free throw, two three-pointers from Belle Lanpher, and a three from Forever Toppin. This built Central a 15-8 lead. 

• Ny'Ceara Pryor attempted to slow CCSU's momentum, hitting two free throws.  

• Lanpher sunk her third three of the quarter before SHU went on a 4-11 run to make it a one-point game at the end of Q1. 

• Sacred Heart went scoreless for the first 6:28 of Q2, allowing the Blue Devils to expand their lead to ten (31-21). 

• The roles swapped for the final 3:32 of the quarter, and CCSU remained scoreless while SHU closed the gap going on a 9-0 run. This made it, once again, a one-point game going into the half. 

• The Blue Devils came in hot in the third, determined to reestablish their lead. Toppin sunk a shot from behind the arc, followed by a Jenkins jumper to pull away. 

• The Pioneers battled to close the gap, tying things up at 40-40. 

• At this point CCSU took control, going on a 14-5 run, taking a nine-point lead going into the final quarter (54-45). 

• Central opened the fourth with a 10-4 run to lead 64-53. 

• Sacred Heart was able to rally to 66-61 with 1:38 left to play. 

• CCSU went 9-12 from the free throw line in final 1:30 to put the game away. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW   

66.7% - Central shot 66.7% (10-15) from behind the arc, hitting a season high of 10 three pointers. 

NOTES   

• The Blue Devils had two players score 20+ points for the first time since January 31st, 2015 (TeJahne Malone (22) and Kayla Miller (20)). Belle Lanpher scored 28 and Forever Toppin finished with 25. 

• Toppin also tallied a career-high of seven steals. Central tallied 13 steals total, the fifth game in the last seven with 10 or more. 

• Rohkohl led CCSU on the boards with nine rebounds, six offensive. 

• The Blue Devils scored 20+ points in three of the four quarters and now have 20 or more points in 13 quarters this season. 

• This was the first time Central defeated the Pioneers since February 3rd, 2018, ending a nine-game losing streak against SHU.
