Women's Basketball Falls to NJIT in Overtime

KEY MOMENTS 

• CCSU opened the first quarter with possession and quickly got on the board with a three-pointer from Alli Napoli. Napoli scored Central's first eight points. 

• The Blue Devils forced six first-quarter NJIT turnovers and took a 17-14 lead following the first quarter 

• The Highlanders kicked off the second quarter, sinking two free throws to close in on the Blue Devils. Tatiana Brown was able to quickly retaliate with a layup. 

• NJIT kicked it into gear, going on a 13-2 run, giving them the 28-19 lead, that the Blue Devils were able to whittle down, thanks in part to an 8-4 run, capped by a Dejah Jenkins jumper as the half ended, with CCSU trailing 32-27. 

• The Blue Devils stayed hot in the third quarter, battling with the Highlanders for the lead. Amaya Williams tied things up from behind the arc before Napoli hit her fourth three-pointer of the game to make the score 43-42 with 3:28 to play in the period. 

• The Highlanders were able to take back the lead before the end of the third quarter, but Meghan Kenefick hit a jumper just before the buzzer to keep it a one-possession game, 49-47. 

• NJIT went on a 7-0 run opening the fourth quarter, before Toppin hit her stride, sinking a jumper and a three, slowing the Highlanders' momentum. This ignited the CCSU offense, allowing them to close the gap and take a two-point lead with four seconds remaining in the game. 

• The Highlanders scored on their final possession, with a layup from Trinity Williams to force the extra period. 

• NJIT scored first in the extra period, which Williams answered before the Highlanders finished the game on a 9-3 run to earn the win.

NOTES 

• The starting five for tonight's game featured Toppin, Emma Bruen, Jenkins, Kenefick, and Napoli. Kenefick and Jenkins were the most used players in the game, logging 45 and 39 minutes, respectively. 

• This was the 2nd meeting of all time between the two programs.  

• Ciera Pearson played in her first collegiate game, with one rebound and one assist in five minutes.
