Blue Devils Drop First Meeting with Wagner

The Blue Devils dropped the first of two games to Wagner on Sunday night. Central has now lost its last two games against Wagner and last three overall. With the loss, CCSU falls to 4-11 overall and in NEC play. The Seahawks get a much needed win and improve to 9-5 overall and 9-4 in conference play.

Freshman Belle Lanpher tied a career high 15 points on 6-13 shooting. Dejah Jenkins also scored in double figures with 12 points.

The Blue Devils went a solid 7-20 (35.0%) from beyond the arc. However, the team committed 26 turnovers, leading to 24 points for Wagner.

Emilija Krista Grava led all scorers with 21 points. She went 8-14 from the floor and grabbed 6 rebounds. Laniya Miller was the next highest scorer for Wagner with 9 points, including 6-6 from the free throw line.

KEY MOMENTS 

• The Blue Devils led 5-4 just over two minutes into the game until Wagner went on a 16-0 run, taking a 20-5 lead. 

• Central shot just 3-17 from the floor in the first quarter and fell behind 23-7.

• Dejah Jenkins was able to cut the game to single digits after a three-pointer with 3:23 left in the half.

• Central continued its stellar offense, ending the half on a 9-0 run. The Blue Devils trailed just 32-28 at halftime and outscored Wagner 21-9 in the second quarter.

• Central was able to take a 36-35 after Jamey Napoleon made a tough layup off the dish from Danielle Delano at the 6:30 mark in the third quarter.

• Wagner finished on a high note, outscoring CCSU 20-7 the remainder of the quarter to take a 55-42 lead.

• Despite a late push, Central could not recover and fell by 10 on the road.

30 - The Blue Devils allowed 30 points in the paint while only scoring 14.

NOTES 

• Senior Ashley Forker scored 7 points and added 9 rebounds and 4 steals.

• Jamey Napoleon recorded 2 more blocks to her league leading season. She also brought down 10 rebounds.

• Central's leading scorer Forever Toppin could not find the touch, scoring just 7 points on 2-7 shooting.

• The Blue Devils had another quality night from the free throw line, going 11-14 (78.6%).

• Central assisted on half of its baskets, but only made 20 field goals.

• 26 turnovers is a new season high for CCSU.
