Yale Outshoots Women’s Basketball on Thursday
Central hosts Hartford on Friday, Dec. 28.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped a 58-46 decision to Yale on Thursday in New Haven, CT. Central (3-6, 0-0 NEC) trailed 45-41 with 7:51 left in the game but did not have enough offense to overcome the Bulldogs (8-5, 0-0 Ivy League). CCSU shot 17-26 (.266) from the floor while Yale shot 24-58 (.414).
After eleven missed shots from both teams to start the game, Central opened scoring at the 6:12 mark when senior Andi Lydon hit a jumper on the baseline. The next possession, junior Bruna Vila Artigues knocked down a wide-open three to put CCSU up 5-0. Alex Cade kept the Bulldogs alive scoring six straight points of her own. The teams traded baskets following the media timeout and ended the quarter tied 14-14.
Senior Kiana Patterson ended a 7-0 Yale run with a three from the wing to cut the lead 23-19 with 3:39 remaining in the first half. Roxy Barahman took over the game scoring 11 of the 15 second quarter points for Yale giving the Bulldogs a 29-21 halftime lead.
At the half, CCSU shot 8-31 (.258) including 3-13 (.231) from beyond the arc. Yale shot 13-28 (.464) going 2-10 (.200) from deep.
Out of the halftime gate, Central had back-to-back makes by sophomore Ashley Berube and Lydon. Berube scored six points in the third helping the Blue Devils win the quarter 15-13 but CCSU trailed 42-36 with 10 minutes left to play.
Despite almost trailing by as much as 15, the Blue Devils would not go away and fought to get the lead to as close as four in the second half. Central held Yale to just five field goals in the fourth but struggled offensively going 3-13 to close the game.
Berube finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three blocks and one steal for Central. Patterson was the only other Blue Devil to score double figures with 10 points. Lydon and McCamus combined for 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Barahman led the Bulldogs with a double-double (27 points, 10 rebounds), four assists, four steals, and two blocks. Camilla Emsbo recorded 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks, and three assists.
Central is off for a week before hosting local foe Hartford on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. in New Britain, CT to close its non-conference slate.
