Patterson Named NEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Kiana Patterson scored a career-high 28 points to help Central defeat Albany 60-53 on Dec. 5.
Central Connecticut women's basketball player Kiana Patterson was named the Northeast Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced Monday by the league office. Patterson has four 20+ point games so far this season and leads the team in scoring with 18.0 ppg.
Patterson poured in a season-high 28 points to power Central Connecticut to a 60-53 road victory over America East member Albany. The Empire State product shot 55.6 percent from the field during her return trip to the Capital Region. Patterson, who played a game-high 38 minutes, scored CCSU's first 12 points of the first quarter and produced once again at a pivotal juncture in the final minute of the contest. The 5-foot-6 guard accounted for five of the Blue Devils' last six points, all which came in the last 31 seconds of the non-conference tilt. Patterson sank a three-pointer with 00:31 remaining, bumping Central's advantage to 57-53. Next time down the floor, Patterson increased the lead to six points by hitting a pair of free throws. The CCSU veteran, who accounted for a 3-of-6 clip from downtown, recorded two assists and committed only one turnover in the win. Through five weeks, she ranks second on the circuit in scoring average (18.0 ppg).
Senior Andi Lydon was named NEC Prime Performer for the week after finishing one rebound shy of a double-double against Albany with 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 16 when they host the University of New Hampshire Wildcats at 1 p.m. inside the Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, CT.
