Patterson Earns NEC Co-Player of the Week on Wednesday
Junior Kiana Patterson nabs her second NEC Player of the Week nod this season.
The Northeast Conference named junior Kiana Patterson the women's basketball Co-Player of the Week on Wednesday afternoon for the second time this season. Patterson powered the Blue Devils team to a pair of impressive NEC victories over Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson.
The junior guard averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per win while shooting 55 percent from the field last week. First, she poured in a game-high 25 points on the road against intrastate rival Sacred Heart.
The 5-foot-6 spark plug accounted for a 5-for-6 clip from downtown and made important plays down the stretch in the Blue Devils tightest margin of victory of the season, 73-71, over the Pioneers.
She tied the game by knocking down a jumper with 3:23 left and her free throw with 00:56 remaining evened the score again. Two days later, Patterson stayed hot against a sizzling opponent. Going up against a team that had won five games in a row, Patterson accounted for 19 points, seven assists and two steals in a 76-56 triumph over third-place Fairleigh Dickinson.
The Troy, NY native shared the acknowledgement with Saint Francis University junior Jessica Kovatch.
Patterson and the rest of the Central Connecticut women's basketball squad will look for three straight wins on Saturday, February 10 as they welcome the Bryant Bulldogs (7-15, 6-5 NEC) to Detrick Gymnasium for a 1:00 p.m. tip off.
