Women's Basketball Set Back at Bryant on Saturday
CCSU will return home in one week to host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball lost a 66-50 decision at Bryant University on Saturday, Jan. 6 after holding an 11-point first half lead. Rookie Emma McCamus paced CCSU with a career-high 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting.
CCSU falls to 1-2 in league play and 1-13 overall. Bryant (1-2) picks up its first win in the NEC and improves to 2-12 on the season.
The Blue Devils ran off on a 7-0 run following the first media break, in which sophomore Ashley Chin scored five points to put CCSU up 12-7. Central would finish the opening quarter 7-of-15 (.467) from the floor to take a 19-10 edge over the Bulldogs.
Bryant senior forward, Kathleen Everson took matters into her own hands as she started the second quarter with six straight points that would spark an 11-0 Bulldog run to knot the score at 21 with 2:51 to go before the half.
Freshman Emma McCamus scored all nine of Central's points as Bryant out-scored the Blue Devils 16-9 in the second quarter.
CCSU led 28-26 at halftime and shot just 9-of-33 (.273) from the field. Bryant connected on 12-of-31 (38.7) and were paced by sophomore Sydney Holloway with nine first half points.
Bryant's Holloway tallied 10 points to lead the Bulldogs as the out-scored the Blue Devils 18-8 in the quarter. CCSU committed nine turnovers in the third segment and trailed 44-36 heading into the last ten minutes of regulation.
Central fell behind by as many as 18 points in the final quarter and shot just 29.3 percent (17-of-58) from the field and 22.7 percent from behind the arc. Bryant finished 24-of-58 (.414) from the floor and were paced by a career-high 28 points and 10 rebounds from Holloway.
Freshman Tiffany Slicklein ended the day with a career-high nine rebounds to lead Central on the glass. Graduate student Morgan Johnson chipped in eight points and six rebounds in a solid effort on the floor.
The Bulldogs made 16-of-20 free throws, 12 of which came off the hand of Holloway.
Central Connecticut will next take the court on Saturday, January 13 at home against Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m.
