Yale Tops Women's Basketball in New Britain on Saturday
Patterson leads the offense with 22 points
Junior Kiana Patterson led all scorer's with a season-high 22 points but the Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped a 75-62 decision at home to Yale on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils scored 44 second half points but couldn't rebound from a second quarter which saw the Bulldogs outscore the home team 28-6 and pull away for their sixth win of the season. Yale is 6-3 with the win. The Blue Devils are 0-9 after the loss.
Patterson's 22 points came on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from three. She added three rebounds and a pair of assists in the game. Graduate student Morgan Johnson finished the game with 12 points, all coming on threes, as she shot 4-of-6 from three in the game.
Yale held a 44-26 advantage on the board including 16 offensive rebounds. In the first half, while taking a 41-18 halftime lead, they shot 10-of-14 from the floor in the second quarter, including a pair of three points. Central was 2-of-8 from the floor and didn't make a three as the Bulldogs turned a 13-12 first quarter lead into the big halftime advantage.
The Blue Devils would not go away, and fought to within 10 points in the final minute of the game. They posted 17 points in the third quarter and 27 in the fourth while shooting 9-of-16 from the field in the final quarter of the game. They hit 5-of-9 threes in the frame and finished the game making 10-of-20 from three.
Junior Andi Lydon posted five rebounds and five assists in the loss, while also posting a pair of steals. The Blue Devils, however, turned the ball over 18 times which led to 25 points for the Bulldogs. Central posted eight steals in the game, including two each from Lydon and freshman Ashley Berube, that led to nine points.
Central will be off for final exams this week, and plays again on Sunday, Dec. 17 at Stony Brook at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
