Women's Basketball Falls to Albany, 72-60, Monday
Juniors Kiana Patterson and Andi Lydon led the way with 15 points apiece.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped a 72-60 decision to the Albany Great Danes on Monday, Nov. 20 at Detrick Gymnasium. Juniors Kiana Patterson and Andi Lydon led the charge for CCSU with 15 points apiece. Lydon notched her second double-double of the season with a game-high 10 rebounds, a career-high five steals and added a career-tying high five assists. Central's bench out-scored Albany's 23-10 for the game led two season-highs from Brianna Jacobs with nine points and seven points from freshman Emma McCamus.
Central falls to 0-5 on the year and Albany improves to 4-1.
Rookie Ashley Berube put a halt to Albany's 11-2 run to start the Monday night's game with a strong finish around the rim that sparked a 5-0 Blue Devil run. Berube registered six first quarter points. Freshman Emma McCamus sank a buzzer-beating jumper at the end of the first quarter that brought CCSU to within five points, 23-18.
With just under three minutes to go Lydon made an athletic put-back off of missed CCSU three-pointer, fueling an 8-4 run that cut the Great Danes lead down to five points, 39-34, before the half. Both Patterson and Lydon were a flawless 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes of play. Patterson led the Blue Devils in scoring with nine points.
CCSU shot 44.0 percent from the floor and went 9-of-12 (.750) from the free throw line. Albany's Jessica Fequiere led the America East crew with 13 points at the break.
Albany ran off on a 11-4 run in the least productive quarter from both sides. CCSU shot 23.1 percent from the floor and the Great Danes out-scored Central 14-9 on 5-of-15 shooting. UAlbany opened its lead to double figures 53-43 heading into the final period.
Patterson knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the fourth However, cold-shooting continued to plague the Blue Devils in the fourth quarter as the Empire State opponent pushed its lead to as many as 16 with 3:24 left in regulation.
The Great Danes out-rebounded Central 41-27 led by Tiano-Jo Carter with eight boards and chipped in 13 points. Mackenzie Trpcic dished out a game-high eight assists and Jessica Frequiere led the Danes with 26 points.
Central went 19-for-50 (.380) from the floor and converted 21 points off of UAlbany's 23 turnovers. The Great Danes ended 26-for-56 (.464) from the floor.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will host Morgan State at home on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 7:00 p.m.
