Women's Basketball Drops Season-Opener at WVU on Friday

The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped its first contest of the year to Big 12 member West Virginia 102-52 on Friday Nov. 10 inside the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, WV. Eight different Blue Devils scored led by sophomore Kiana Patterson with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting.
Central will travel to Charlottesville, VA to play the Cavaliers of Virginia on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Following an opening 16-5 run from the Mountaineers, sophomores Ashley Chin and Taylor Goode combined for eight straight points coming out of the first media timeout to cut the lead down to seven.
Junior captain, Kiana Patterson opened the second quarter with seven consecutive points including a deep triple from the left wing. Patterson collected 11 first half points to lead the Blue Devils. West Virginia saw three players score in double-figures, led by senior Teana Muldrow with 20 points through the first 20 minutes of the 2017-18 basketball season.
WVU lead 57-26 at the break.
After leaving the first half with two quick fouls at 8:40, graduate transfer Morgan Johnson connected on three trifectas in the third quarter and found junior Sydney Hines open for a three of her own with 2:57 on the clock. Johnson sank back-to-back threes at 1:07 and the 30.0 second mark.
The Mountaineers combined for 21 fourth quarter points to close out the home victory. Muldrow scored a game-high 30 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. Naomi Davenport also notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Johnson chipped in 11 points in her first game wear a Blue Devil jersey. Central shot .346 from downtown and .308 from the floor. Freshman Ashley Forker added a pair of assists and Hines finished with eight points in the season opener.
