Musgrave Named NEC Rookie of the Week
Freshman Camden Musgrave of the Central Connecticut women’s basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Freshman Camden Musgrave of the Central Connecticut women's basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for her performance during week eight of NEC play, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Musgrave helped lead CCSU to two NEC victories, averaging 18.0 points per game on the week, and got the Blue Devils back on track after they dropped two games in the week prior. With the wins, the Blue Devils improve to 17-10 overall, 13-3 in NEC action and regain a share of first place in the NEC standings with the Bryant Bulldogs.
Musgrave, a freshman sharpshooter from Bowie, MD, provided 36 points in 51 minutes of action off the bench for CCSU in two home victories on the week. Musgrave averaged 18.0 points and 2.5 assists per game to help the Blue Devils regain a share of first-place in the NEC standings. The 5-foot-7 sparkplug shot 58.8% (10-17) from the field to secure the NEC Rookie of the Week award for the third time since January 27. She was sensational from behind the arc on the week, sinking seven three-pointers in 12 attempts, good for a 58.3% clip.
On Saturday, Musgrave helped CCSU secure a regular season series sweep of NEC foe Sacred Heart as she poured in a game-high 20 points and tallied three assists as the Blue Devils topped the Pioneers 70-58. Then, in Monday night's game against Saint Francis U, Musgrave buried four clutch triples and finished with 16 points as the Blue Devils took down the Red Flash 72-59. The Marylander has connected on a team-high 46 three-pointers this season and is shooting 38.7% from beyond the arc.
The Blue Devils will complete their regular season schedule next weekend with two games on the road. They will first travel to play Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then face-off against Bryant on Monday at 7 p.m.
