Musgrave Named Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
CCSU freshman Camden Musgrave was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week by the league on Tuesday morning.
Freshman Camden Musgrave of the Central Connecticut women's basketball team was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Musgrave led the Blue Devils to a 2-0 week in Northeast Conference play, improving CCSU's league record to 7-1 with victories over a pair of New York City based foes, Wagner and St. Francis Brooklyn, in week four of NEC women's hoops.
Musgrave, the top rookie scorer in the NEC last week, was sensational shooting the basketball from beyond the arc and at the charity stripe. She paced the Blue Devils averaging 17.0 points per contest in just 25 minutes per game off the bench for Central. The freshman guard connected on 53.8 percent (9-17) of her attempts from three-point range and converted at a 81.8 percent (9-11) clip from the free throw line on the week, helping CCSU run its NEC win streak to four in a row.
In Saturday afternoon's 77-61 route of Wagner in Detrick Gymnasium, the 5-foot-7 Marylander finished with a career night. Exactly one week after setting a career-high of 18 points in a win over Bryant, Musgrave was at it again setting a new career-high with a game-high 22 points in the double-digit win. Musgrave finished the game six-of-nine shooting from the floor, including five-of-seven from three and a perfect five-of-five from the free throw line in the win. She also added four rebounds and three steals for the Blue Devils and became the first Blue Devil to hit the 20-point mark in a conference contest.
On Monday, Musgrave followed up her career-high with a game-high 12 points in a 51-49 edge of St. Francis Brooklyn in Brooklyn Heights, NY. Musgrave was crucial in the victory connecting on three-of-eight shooting from the floor, including two-of-six from distance and four-of-six from the charity stripe. Musgrave sealed the win for CCSU, hitting on three-of-four free throw attempts in the final minute against SFBK.
Musgrave is CCSU's second-leading scorer this season and she has produced a double-digit point total in four of her last five outings.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday on the road at Wagner at 2:00 p.m.
