Softball Takes Down Army in Wednesday Doubleheader
The Central Connecticut softball team tallied two victories over Army in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday.
Kaylee Whittaker (10-5) earned her tenth win of the season after going the distance for The Blue Devils, allowing just three hits and one run in 7.0 innings. Paige Stringer's two run blast and a sacrafice fly were enough for The Blue Devil's victory in game one.
Liz Hamilton (8-3) earned her eighth win of the season after coming in relief for her team. Hamilton gave up four hits and one earned run through six in the 10 inning victory. KC Machado led the Blue Devils with two hits and Grace Lawton led her team with two RBIs.

KEY MOMENTS – GAME ONE
BOTTOM 1ST: Meg Gorman led off the inning with a single up the middle. Sophia Lopiccolo laid down a sac bunt to move Gorman to second. She moved to third after Stringer reached on n error. KC Machado brought home Central's first run with a sacrifice fly to center.
BOTTOM 3RD: The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead after Paige Stringer blasted her eighth homerun of the year off the pavilion at CCSU Softball Field.
TOP 5TH: Ava Cino laced a single to left field that plated Vunak. With two runners on, KC Machado blasted a home run over the left field fence and gave Central a 6-0 advantage.
TOP 7TH: Army hit back-to-back doubles to score their first and only run of the game.
KEY MOMENTS – GAME TWO
BOTTOM 1ST: Paige Stringer began a two-out rally for the Blue Devils with a single down the left-field line. Machado singled and Grace Lawton singled to right field to bring home Machado and Stringer. Kristina Bozek doubled to left center field to bring home Lawton and The Blue Devils took an early 3-0 lead over Army.
TOP 3RD: Army scored a run after Ashton White hit a home run to left and Army cut Centrals lead to 3-1.
TOP 4TH: Julia Farris led the inning off with a solo shot to left and Army trailed 3-2. Army rallied for two more runs off four hits to take a 4-3 lead over Central.
TOP 6TH: Army scored another run after Ashton White doubled to left center to extend their lead to 5-3.
BOTTOM 7TH: Bozek led off the inning with a walk and Brooke Fedison singled to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Ava Cino roped a pinch-hit double to right center to score Bozek. Kendall Lamorte tied the game at five with a base hit to left field.
BOTTOM 10TH: Meg Gorman was placed on second for the international tiebreaker. Paige Stringer hit a fly ball to center field that Gorman tagged up on. Gorman's head dove into third; the throw was off-line and trickled past the third baseman allowing her to score. The Blue Devils walked off with a 6-5 victory.
